"On the easternmost hill on the verge of Europe Constantine aimed at building his new capital, like old Rome, on seven hills. Opposite was the rival city on the coast of Asia, Chalcedon, the City of the Blind, and between them the waters of the famous Golden Horn-so called from its peculiar shape and the rich revenues derived from the fish caught in its depths. The view is from the military barracks, a part of which can be seen in the foreground, and sharply defined against the sky are the graceful minarets and stately dome of the Mosque of Suleiman while beyond are the shores of Asia ." This is an original C. F. W. Mielatz etching of "The Golden Horn". A highly collectible etching. The etching itself in in fine condition. This plate is signed as you can see by the picture below but is is not originally signed by pencil as are some. It is about 13 by 8 1/2. The mat is 17 x 22. Very mystical and exotic. A sense of a time long past. Ships for $12.00
