Broken down into various sections. There is a section called: "Cornell Rural school leaflet for boys and girls). This section tells about how to raise chicks, to plant corn and many things of interest to children on or about farm life. It also quotes passages from John Burroughs and Henry D. Thoreau to mention a couple. It talks about gardening and wildlife. The it has a section by the same name but for teachers, concerning subject matter in nature and elementary agriculture. It speaks about rural schools (picture a Herkimer county school), about farm animals and insects found in farm life. It seems to me to be a book that is intended for teaching children who life or were raised on farms. As well as things about child rearing and life for all those on a farm. To offer them an education as they were unable to access city schools. There is stuff in here as trivial or as important as: Jelly-making, The preservation of food, making grape juice, preservation of eggs, keeping fruit in the cellar with proper ventilation, ho to clean around the house etc. An interesting look into the life of a rural family at the turn of the century.�
Book has some fading, minor soiling on the cover, a minor rip on the outer binding and edges, cracked hinges but holding strong and clean in the inside.�
Make no mistake, this is a fascinating book to read. If you love nature you will appreciate this old book.�
