The title of this full calf leather book is "Report of cases argued and ruled at Nisi Prius in the courts of King's Bench and Common Pleas, from Easter Term, 39 George III, 1799, to Hilary Term, 43 George III 1803". By Isaac 'Espinasse, or Gray's Inn, ESQ Barrister at law. By Thomas Day counsellor at Law. Vols. III and IV. Pub in Hartford by Hudson and Goodwin in 1808. Book is 9 1/2" by 5 3/4". Very good condition for just under 200 years. Full calf. Very solid. About 280 pp. with a detailed index. This book relates cases presented and their rulings. Fascinating to read. I'm not a lawyer but believe me there is no better way to obtain insight into our past. You can read the actual complaints, disagreements, grievances etc of people in our country just 32 years after our country's independence. What their lives were like and how our society handled these matters. A young country just getting on its feet. Condition is as good as I've seen for a book this old. There are three blank pages before the title page. The fist blank one is ripped at the two corners. At the end of the book there are two blank pages. The last one is ripped. The title page itself is clipped at the top right corner, you can see it in the picture. The text is not effected. The text in the book is in remarkable condition. Very little foxing to speak of. The outer corners are bumped and there is some wear. There is a name written on the upper right corner of the cover. The label on the binding has gold lettering with "Espinasse's Reports". Great book if interested in our early history, for a lawyer (attorney), historian or just for reading. I guess this is the early interpretation of our constitutional rights. A fine book for any collection Law enthusiast or the history of everyday life back then.
